In this short article I’d like to talk about how to stay motivated when you are bored.

Look, getting bored it’s a normal feeling. Inevitably, many of us go through this boredom, and actually we don’t know how to deal with it.

Motivation goes out the window, you don’t want to do the thing and sometimes you don’t know why you’re feeling that way.

So, I’m here to give you some tips, and shed some light on the reality of motivation, what you need to have instead.

Tip #1: Have an ambitious goal

Without a shadow of a doubt, having a goal that really makse your heart thrilled and excited, is one of the ways to kill instantly boredom.

There’s nothing hurting in the world than working on something that is energy draining, constantly pushing yourself to do it, like working in a job you hate.

Just to put things in the right perspective, I’m not talking about the general boredom, like being bored about life. This boredom is specific only to the goal that you’re after.

Because whatever you are chasing, at certain point you’ll be bored with it. Excitement will inevitably wears off, and…

The only crucial thing that will make the difference, and keep you going is this: how keen, and ambitious this goal is for YOU.

Trust me, if building this productivity brand isn’t exciting for me, you would not be reading those lines, because they would not exist.

And that’s something you should ask yourself:

Am I doing this or that thing just to make money, or to prove myself, or for any external and ego-based outcome?

Tip #2: Motivation Is Temporary

Growing up, “you need to be motivated” was the first phrase that comes out from people’s mouth whenever I asked them to do something that requires a lot of energy, like going to the gym.

But, they were totally wrong.

With a bit of digging in the right information like behavioral psychology, and habit formation, now I’m convinced why those people are stuck in their lives, like working for a minimum wage, and complaining in top of it.

Simply because they are waiting motivation to come down on them.

They were waiting, they still waiting, and they will be waiting forever, and nothing will happen.

What you need to do instead is to build systems, like a chain of habits, working like kind of algorithm, that is done every single day automatically, also called the process.

There’s a fortress of gold within us, and sadely many of us don’t use it, and that is the subsconscioud mind.

Tip #3: Think Long Term

  • Third idea, what it feels good right now, it’s going to be a liability tomorrow. Plus, it will come with regrets. Which comes down to developing the ability to delay instant gratification, and do the work because you’ll not regret it in the future.
  • Always get involved in active tasks, the ones that are going to come with mountains of benefits like: learning a language, reading books, and spend less time doing passive activities like watching TV, social media, and doing goalless stuff.

What I recommend to do is to make a list of 10-20 things which really excites you a lot and which takes the minimum amount of your time. Make sure they are not very addictive, otherwise you will find yourself spending a lot of time doing those.
