The number one reason of boredom is living a meaningless life. It’s not the existence of infinite pleasurable activities, or trying to get high, but it’s the absence of meaning and a bigger call.
It’s a bit philosophical, but it’s unarguably true.
Pleasure is very limited, and finite. Most of the time, we experience negative emotions, we feel down after a happy or a delightful moment. That what makes life interesting, and balanced.
But if you have a big purpose, and meaningful mission to show up for, not of that will bother you even boredom. So, the question that should ask:
How To Make My Life Meaningful?
Before we answer this question, we need to ask ourselves a more important question: What is a meaningful life?
According to a paper published in 2016 in the review of general psychology, there are three pillars that constitute a meaningful life:
- Purpose: Having a goal that is considered to you significant and important aligned with your core values.
- Comprehension: The ability to make sense of all the events that are occurring, and understanding how they weave to the whole picture.
- Mattering: You know that your existence matters and valuable
So, here are 3 tips to build a meaningful life to get yourself to take action not matter how bored or unproductive you feel:

Tip #1: Have a Purpose

A purpose is only a decision. You choose something that will help others relying upon your strengths, and this something could be
- building a business that will solve an X problem,
- volunteer to a non profit organisation to feed poor families,
- or you have an expertise in a domain, and you want to benefit others.
So, identify your strengths by doing kind of a self-diagnosis of what you are good at, and offer your gifts to the world.
Ask your friends, your parents, your closet people, ask them with sincerity what are the things that they see that you are good at?
Social media is great opportunity to share your ideas, and what you really care for, to bound with others that are in the same wave and benefit them.
Tip #2: Be True To Yourself
“Fake it until you make it” it’s an absurd quote. I don’t know the author of this quote, but it’s completely false, especially when it comes to the self.
- if you want to be confident, just fake it, and magically you will be it.
- You want to be productive? Imagine yourself you’re productive, and you’ll be it.
- You want to be happy? Just act as if you are the happiest person in the world, and it shall will be.
That’s also called lying to yourself. Trust me, all those things don’t work. The fastest road to getting what you want without any regret and compromising your fulfillment is to express truly yourself, your with all your weaknesses, and flaws.
Because that will help you to avoid what are the activities that aren’t aligned with strengths and your qualities, which means saving a lot of time, and gravitate around your passions, and what you can master easily.
Tip #3: Live a Value Based Life
We are living in a materialistic world with more advanced technologies and innovations making our lives a bit easier and comfortable.
If only that was the case. But unfortunately, we noticed also many problems that arose because of this new of way of living, and one of them is materialism.
So, people’s behaviors is gravitating around stuff at the expense of their values. Not only it create a meaningless life, but also an unhappy life as well.
So, list out your values, what do you stand for, what you value the most in terms of character, and make sure that everything that you do alienates with your core values.
I dare you, when you do this simple exercise, you’ll find that everything that you do will have a certain charm to it, and not a complete void.
